A trio of Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball players have earned All-Arrowhead Conference honors for their play for the Chargers this season.

Sophomore Deandrey Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) was voted First-Team All-Arrowhead by the league’s coaches, while freshmen Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) and Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) were second-team selections. They helped the Chargers to a 6-2 record in conference play and a second consecutive 20-win season (21-8).

A 6-foot-5 forward, Robinson was one of the most productive players this season in all of NJCAA Division II. In the Chargers’ eight conference games, he led the team with averages of 17.3 points and 11.9 rebounds. He also shot a team-best 57 percent (53 of 93) from the field and had averaged 2.3 assists per game. Robinson had double-doubles in six conference matchups and grabbed at least 10 rebounds in all eight. He pulled down a career-high 16 boards in Sandburg’s win Feb. 19 against Black Hawk.

Overall this season, Robinson was one of 16 players nationally to average a double-double (17.4 points, 10.2 rebounds). Only seven players finished the season with higher averages than Robinson in both scoring and rebounding.

A 6-4 shooting guard, Gowan averaged 16.5 points against conference opponents. One of the top shooters in the league, Gowan led the Chargers with 19 3-pointers in eight Arrowhead games and shot 36.5 percent from beyond the arc. He also shot 46.2 percent from the field and 82.9 percent from the free-throw line. Gowan scored in double figures in each conference game, led by a 21-point effort Feb. 14 against Sauk Valley.

A 6-5 forward, Fayhee finished behind only Robinson and Gowan in scoring among Chargers in conference play, averaging 13.1 points. His 7.4 rebounds per contest were good for second to Robinson, and Fayhee also was second on the team in assists at 3.4 per game. The versatile big man shot 43.3 percent from the field, 30.6 percent from 3-point range and 83.3 percent from the stripe.

Fayhee hit double figures in seven of eight Arrowhead games, highlighted by a season-high 24-point night in the conference opener at Kishwaukee on Jan. 10. Fayhee had a season-best 14 rebounds in the Kougars’ return trip to Sandburg on Feb. 16 as he added 15 points for a double-double.
